Mix Monday: Shi-shi-shibuya edition~!
This should really be a "Mix Tuesday" at this point. I've been out of the house all day and forgot to schedule this post yesterday evening. Woops! Anyway, the last few weeks I've been working on my first paid writing assignment. (Yay!) Whenever I sit down to write something, I automatically make a playlist to go with it. This particular piece was just aching for a little Shibuya.
While I have a fair amount of Shibuya Kei in my own library, this particular mix is as close to immaculate as you can get when it comes to Shibuya beats.
Before I post the link, it bears mentioning that Shibuya Kei came out of Tokyo in the early 90's. Wikipedia says it's best described as a mix between jazz, electronica, and synth pop. When I was writing my director, I told him it felt super kitsch and retro-futurist to me; which perfectly suits the script.
Learning that this was an actual *genre* kind of changed my life. I'd been listening to bands like Fantastic Plastic Machine, Towa Tei, and Pizzicato 5 for a long time. I had no idea they belonged to their own sub-genre!
Anyway, this particular mix down is by a fellow (or ladyperson) by the name of Question, AND IT'S GREAT. (Also as an FYI: it's available for a free download on their soundcloud page.)

My favorite bit is from 12:00-15:00 because it's a great sample of Towa Tei's 'Technova'.
